Introduction

Civil Engineering Department was established in 1994. The department has been training for thousands of civil engineers and being a consultant (designs, construction and project management) for construction investment projects. We have consulted for civil engineering issues in the Mekong Delta and international projects such as My Thuan Bridge, Can Tho Bridge, O Mon Thermal Power Plant and Project of Petro-Power-Fertilizer in Ca Mau.

Mission

Teaching and training three Bachelor of Engineering programmes (Hydraulic Engineering, Bridges and Roads Engineering, and Building Engineering) and two Master programmes (Geotechnical Engineering and Architecture) in collaboration with Hochiminh City University of Technology (HCMUT) and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering.
Doing research and technology transfers in the civil engineering field in order to serve for sustainable socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta and the country.

Research

a) Hydraulic engineering:

Research on the river bank erosion and the alternatives for bank protection
Integrated water resources management in Can Tho and Mekong Delta – Establishment of the stations along the Bassac river for monitoring water quality and modeling the river flow in quantity and quality
Groundwater modeling and groundwater management models for rational allocation of groundwater resources in the Mekong Delta in Viet Nam

b) Bridges and roads engineering:

Research on the technical measures for strengthening the embankment and soft soil foundation in the Mekong Delta
The structural analysis for the bridges and houses under the action of wind pressure
The testing methods of bridges and roads structures

c) Building engineering and materials:

Research on the architecture of the houses for sustainable construction in the flooding zones of the Mekong Delta
Research on light materials for building structures in the soft soil foundation areas
Research on the 3D panel in prefabricated constructions

Laboratory and Center

The Department has four laboratories and one center:

Laboratory:

Construction materials lab.
Soil mechanics lab.
Land survey lab.
Structrural engineering lab.

The Center of Verifying and Construction Consultant (LAS-XD 124 – ISO 9001:2008)

The Center is a steering committee member of Vietnam Network for Appraisal of Construction Works, under the Bureau of National Appraisal for Construction Works - Ministry of Construction. It is one of a largest centers of this type in the Mekong Delta, and is capable of survey, design, consultation, set-up of investment projects, setup of tender documents, consolidating design, repair of construction works, appraisal of construction work cost estimation, decorative interior design, supervision of construction works, training and transferring of building technology… This center is able to carry out some 147 tests in accordance with National Standards.
